Hyderabad: In a move aimed at easing congestion and improving safety, the Tarnaka Junction under the flyover will be closed to vehicular traffic from June 6, Hyderabad Traffic Police announced on Thursday.
The decision follows a comprehensive trial phase that began on April 18, 2025, when the junction was temporarily reopened to test its impact on traffic flow between Osmania University and Lalapet. During the trial, officials conducted a series of studies including simulation exercises, drone surveys, and analyses of Google traffic data to assess the junction’s viability.
The team also experimented with different traffic signal timings and studied road engineering aspects, alongside gathering feedback from commuters. The findings were clear: keeping the junction open under the flyover was leading to increased congestion and heightened accident risk.
“In the interest of all road users, and to prevent potential accidents, the studies have recommended closing the junction under the flyover,” the Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Hyderabad, said in a press note.
Motorists are advised to make alternate travel arrangements and note that the closure will be effective from June 6, 2025.
