Unauthorised birthday celebrations disrupt Tank Bund; netizens demand action

Hyderabad: Despite a police ban on public celebrations at Tank Bund, a group of youths created a disturbance with an unauthorised birthday event that included fireworks and celebratory fanfare. The incident, which occurred without police permission, was captured on video and widely circulated online.

According to eyewitnesses, the group marked the birthday by garlanding the celebrant, applying a ceremonial tilak, and bursting crackers. The activity caused inconvenience not only to visitors at the location—many of whom were with children—but also to motorists passing by.

Authorities had earlier prohibited cake-cutting, loud gatherings, and any form of public festivity at Tank Bund following complaints that such activities were affecting the peaceful atmosphere of the area. Despite this, such gatherings continue to take place.

Police have yet to confirm whether any action was taken in this instance. Meanwhile, social media users criticised the lack of enforcement. Some called for a special drive to penalise violators and restore the space to families seeking a peaceful outing. “Tank Bund has become Cake Bund,” one comment read, reflecting widespread frustration.
