Hyderabad: Suraram Holi drowning deaths claimed the lives of two 17-year-old intermediate students who drowned in a lake while celebrating the festival in Medchal Malkajgiri district.
The incident occurred under the Suraram police station limits in Qutbullapur constituency. According to police, the victims were identified as Sagar from Vishwakarma Colony and Abhishek from Krishna Nagar. Both were first-year students at the Government Junior College in Bahadurpally.
Police said Sagar, Abhishek, Ajay from Vishwakarma Colony, Vignesh from Sriram Nagar and Mekala Chatrapathi had gone to Suraram Pantulu Cheruvu for a swim as part of Holi celebrations. However, Sagar and Abhishek reportedly did not know how to swim and slipped into deeper waters.
As a result, they went missing in the lake. On receiving information, Suraram police rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation with the help of Disaster Response Force teams.

The rescue teams conducted searches in the lake and later retrieved the bodies. Subsequently, the bodies were handed over to the police for further procedure.
Police shifted the bodies to the Gandhi mortuary for post-mortem examination. A case was registered based on complaints from the family members, and investigation was underway.
The Suraram Holi drowning deaths cast a pall over Vishwakarma Colony and Krishna Nagar. Residents gathered at the victims’ homes as news of the tragedy spread across the locality.
Authorities said further details would emerge after completion of the investigation.
