Sudheer Reddy leads mosquito cleanup drive at Nagole lake

Hyderabad: Mosquito cleanup drive was launched by MLA Devi Reddy Sudheer Reddy at Nagole Lake on Tuesday to address the rising mosquito menace in L.B. Nagar constituency.

The MLA initiated the mosquito cleanup drive following an increase in mosquito-related public health concerns reported by residents. He inspected Nagole Lake along with local leaders and supervised the removal of dense aquatic weeds, locally known as Gurrapu Dekka or water hyacinth.

Residents from nearby colonies welcomed the mosquito cleanup drive. They said the removal of weed would reduce mosquito breeding and improve living conditions.

Mosquito cleanup drive targets breeding hotspots

Sudheer Reddy said authorities had earlier reviewed lakes in Mansurabad, Hayatnagar and Nagol divisions. These reviews followed complaints from morning walkers and residents about mosquito-related illnesses.

He directed officials to take immediate steps to clear stagnant vegetation. He said such action would help eliminate mosquito breeding grounds. As a result, the mosquito cleanup drive aims to improve public health conditions in affected areas.

The MLA also referred to earlier measures taken during the previous BRS government. He said drone-based spraying and the release of Gambusia fish had helped control mosquito larvae. He urged the government to intensify such preventive measures.

Residents raised concerns over inadequate fogging in several colonies. In response, BRS leaders reportedly procured fogging machines using their own funds. They carried out spraying operations in multiple localities.

Sudheer Reddy appealed to the government to deploy additional fogging units. He said stronger intervention would help address the mosquito issue more effectively.

Senior BRS leaders, including Ananthula Rajareddy, participated in the programme. Division presidents Chiranjeevi, Cheruku Prashant Goud and Sita Ramulu were also present. Pochampalli Rajendar Reddy, Gutta Bhaskar Reddy, Murali and local residents attended the drive.
