Harassment angle probed in Student suicide in Suryapet

According to Sub-Inspector Kranthi Kumar, the incident occurred in December 2025 but the family approached police only recently. The girl, a resident of Tungaturthi mandal headquarters, had stayed in an SC hostel in Suryapet town while pursuing second-year studies at SV Degree College.

Police said a boy and two girls, all known to the victim, allegedly harassed her for money over several days. On one occasion, they reportedly took her into a room, assaulted her, and recorded photos and videos. They later used those visuals to demand money, the officer said.

Unable to bear the alleged harassment, the girl returned home on December 16, 2025. However, the accused continued to contact her over the phone, police added. She did not inform her family about the matter.

On December 19, 2025, when no one was at home, she allegedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan using a saree. The family initially did not lodge a complaint. Later, her mother approached the police seeking action against those she held responsible for her daughter’s death.

Police registered a case based on the complaint and initiated an investigation. Circle Inspector Narasimha Rao is supervising the probe. As part of the investigation, police said they would exhume the body and conduct a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Investigators are examining digital evidence and call records as part of routine procedure in such cases. Further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing inquiry.
