Hyderabad: In a rare development, a single Scheduled Tribe family in Vikarabad district’s Basheerabad mandal is poised to secure three elected positions unopposed in the village of Manthangoud.
The village, which has eight wards and 494 voters, falls under Manthangoud tanda. Sixteen years ago, Bheemappa and his wife Venkatamma migrated from Mailwar and settled there. Though their two sons now live in Hyderabad, the family holds six votes in the village.
Bheemappa’s residence falls under the limits of Manthangoud, where the sarpanch seat has been reserved for the ST general category. Additionally, the fourth ward is also reserved for ST general, and the sixth ward for ST women.
No other eligible ST families in village
With no other Scheduled Tribe families residing in the village, the sarpanch and both ward member positions are likely to be filled by candidates from Bheemappa’s household. The unique situation has drawn attention ahead of the upcoming panchayat elections.
