Sridhar Babu launches drug-resistant TB diagnostic kits

Hyderabad: Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu launched drug-resistant TB kits manufactured in Genome Valley, marking a step forward in India’s tuberculosis detection efforts.

He said Telangana secured a distinct place globally in producing advanced diagnostic tools. He added that drug-resistant tuberculosis posed a major public health challenge.

The minister said the disease did not respond to standard treatments. Therefore, he stressed that early detection and timely intervention remained critical to saving lives and preventing its spread.

Moreover, the launch of drug-resistant TB kits highlighted Telangana’s growing role in healthcare innovation.

Drug-resistant TB kits manufactured in Genome Valley

The minister launched the drug-resistant TB kits at the Assembly committee hall on Tuesday. French diagnostics major bioMérieux manufactured the kits in Hyderabad.

He said the initiative strengthened India’s capacity to detect and control tuberculosis. He also appreciated the company’s contribution to national TB elimination efforts.

The event was attended by Marc Lamy, Consul General of France in Bengaluru. Charles Mahy, Counsellor for Health and Social Affairs at the French Embassy in India, also attended.

In addition, Alexandre Mérieux, Executive Chairman of bioMérieux, and Telangana Lifesciences Director Sarvesh Singh were present.

Furthermore, the launch of drug-resistant TB kits reflected international collaboration in healthcare development.

Sridhar Babu said bioMérieux played a key role in advancing diagnostic solutions. He noted that the company operated in more than 160 countries.

Founded in 1963, the firm reported annual revenues of about USD 4 billion. It provided solutions across infectious diseases, cancer and industrial microbiology.

Meanwhile, the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry presented a report on India-France trade relations to the minister. The report highlighted the growing role of French companies in Telangana.

He said such partnerships supported economic growth and innovation. The drug-resistant initiative underscored the state’s position in global healthcare manufacturing.
