Hyderabad: Minister for IT and Industries Duddilla Sridhar Babu on Monday said the government would take concrete advocates protection measures to ensure the safety and dignity of legal professionals in the State.
Replying to the Telangana Advocates Protection Bill in the Assembly, he said the government remained committed to social justice through measurable action. Moreover, he said the advocates protection measures aimed to strengthen welfare and institutional support.
He said the government ensured representation for backward and marginalised communities in legal appointments. These included Public Prosecutors, Standing Counsels, and other positions.
“In the appointment of Public Prosecutors, Standing Counsels, and other legal positions, we are giving significant representation to BCs, SCs, and STs. In contrast, the Central government has not upheld the same commitment to social justice,” he said.
Advocates protection measures reflect inclusive representation
Sridhar Babu said the data showed inclusive representation in appointments. Out of 414 Public Prosecutors, 126 belonged to BC communities, 59 to SCs, and 25 to STs.
Among Assistant Public Prosecutors, 24 were from OC communities, 37 from BCs, 16 from SCs, three from STs, and one from a minority community. Therefore, he said these figures reflected the government’s inclusive approach under advocates protection measures.
He also urged BJP members to respond to what he described as disparity at the national level.
Advocates protection measures include welfare schemes
The Minister said the government introduced welfare initiatives for advocates. These included insurance coverage and health cards to ensure financial and social security.
Moreover, he said the government planned dedicated Bar Association halls for women advocates. Under the “Nyaya Nirman” initiative, it would strengthen infrastructure and basic facilities.
He thanked members of the House for unanimously supporting the Bill. He said the legislation would ensure comprehensive protection through advocates protection measures.
