Hyderabad: Former Indian cricketer S. Sreesanth recounted his childhood struggles, spiritual convictions and professional setbacks during the Sreesanth Rooted For Life podcast hosted by Dr Pradeep Sethi, co-founder of Eugenix Hair Sciences.
In a detailed conversation, Sreesanth said he believed in respecting people across religion and caste. He stressed that a strong emotional base kept individuals steady during life’s highs and lows. According to him, humility and self-respect must coexist. He added that treating everyone equally formed the basis of lasting success.
The former fast bowler revealed, for the first time, details of a tumour surgery he underwent as a child. He credited his father’s devotion during that period for giving him strength. Sreesanth said a symbolic one-rupee offering and prayers at Ettumanoor Mahadeva Temple marked a turning point in his recovery. He described the episode as miraculous and spoke about his spiritual bond with Lord Shiva. He also pointed to a birthmark on his arm resembling a Trishul, which he considered significant.
Sreesanth Rooted For Life on World Cup belief
During the Sreesanth Rooted For Life podcast, he disclosed what he called the “secret” behind India’s 2007 T20 World Cup victory. He said he had visualised lifting the trophy three years before it happened. He described his internal conviction as central to that triumph. The pacer also reflected on his famous catch in the final and said it proved decisive in shaping his career.
Sreesanth further outlined his personal philosophy, PRIDE, which stands for Personal Responsibility in Delivering Excellence. He said consistent performance required accountability, discipline and structured routines. Moreover, he explained that self-talk and daily habits helped him overcome setbacks, including being dropped from the team. He maintained that habits outweighed momentary brilliance.
The cricketer also addressed his competitive nature and the fine line between bravery and recklessness in sport. He spoke about overcoming astigmatism and handling the physical strain of fast bowling. He said he worked persistently to master the out-swinging yorker. Additionally, he clarified that his on-field celebrations stemmed from passion for the game rather than ego.
Toward the end, Sreesanth emphasised the importance of family over professional management in a public figure’s life.
