South Central Railway enhances women’s safety measures on MMTS trains

HYDERABAD: In response to recent security concerns, the South Central Railway (SCR) has announced the implementation of enhanced safety measures for women passengers on Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) trains. These initiatives include the installation of ‘panic buttons’ in MMTS coaches, increased deployment of female Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel, and the installation of CCTV cameras in train compartments.

The ‘panic buttons’ are designed to allow passengers to alert the RPF control room instantly during emergencies, facilitating swift assistance. Each coach will be connected to a centralized control room to ensure immediate response upon activation of the panic button.

Additionally, SCR plans to increase the presence of female RPF and GRP staff on trains, particularly in ladies’ compartments, and conduct regular patrols during late-night and early-morning hours.

These measures come in the wake of a recent incident where a 23-year-old woman sustained injuries after jumping from a moving MMTS train to escape a molestation attempt.

SCR General Manager Arun Kumar Jain has reviewed the situation and directed the implementation of these safety protocols to bolster passenger security.
