HYDERABAD: Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has announced that rescue operations at the SLBC (Srisailam Left Bank Canal) Tunnel are progressing rapidly and are expected to conclude within the next 10 to 15 days. Speaking to the media in Srisailam, the minister stated that, following directives from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, approximately 800 experts from various organizations have been working around the clock for the past 40 days to expedite the rescue efforts. Currently, about 550 to 560 personnel equipped with advanced machinery are engaged in the operations.
Minister Reddy highlighted challenges faced during the operations, noting that heavy drilling equipment encountered obstructions due to iron and other materials adhering within the tunnel, making the removal of sludge both difficult and hazardous. He reported that two bodies have been recovered so far, and instructions have been given to the district collector to ensure compensation is provided to the families of the deceased.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment to preventing future incidents, the minister assured that comprehensive measures are being implemented. He affirmed that under the current administration, the project will be completed to provide irrigation water as intended. Minister Reddy also stated that the state government has made all necessary arrangements to facilitate the rescue operations without any hindrances. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed officials, including the collector, special supervising officer, disaster management officer, and superintendent of police, to remain available at all times to oversee and support the ongoing efforts.
