Hyderabad: Skill development Telangana growth engine, Labour and Mines Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy said on Tuesday, asserting that the initiative had evolved into a comprehensive strategy to empower youth and strengthen industry readiness.
He spoke at the valedictory ceremony of the India Skills Competition 2025–26 (South Region) held at Kanha Shanti Vanam. The Minister said the State undertook concerted efforts to modernise Industrial Training Institutes and upgrade training infrastructure.
Under Public-Private Partnership initiatives, the government transformed ITIs into Advanced Technology Centres equipped with modern machinery and digital tools. The centres also adopted industry-aligned curricula to meet evolving demands.
“Today is not just about certificates. It is a day to honour hard work, discipline, dedication and talent,” he said. He expressed confidence in the nation’s future after witnessing the skills of participating youth. Director of Employment and Training Kanthi Wesley attended the programme.
Skill development Telangana expands into emerging sectors
Dr. Vivek said the Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge played a key role in bridging academia and industry. Training modules now integrate communication skills, problem-solving abilities and digital literacy, he added.
He noted that Hyderabad emerged as a global hub in IT, pharmaceuticals, aerospace and life sciences. At the same time, the State placed emphasis on emerging sectors such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Mechatronics, Data Analytics and Green Technologies.
“Skill development is not only about employment; it is about empowerment. Skilled individuals do not wait for opportunities — they create them,” he said.
A total of 350 participants competed across 63 skill categories in the South India regional event. Among them were 123 young women. Notably, 20 women took part in trades such as Cabinet Making, Carpentry, Electrical Installations, Plumbing and Heating.
The Minister presented Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in categories including 3D Digital Game Art, Additive Manufacturing, Autonomous Mobile Robotics, Beauty Therapy, Bricklaying, Cabinet Making and Carpentry.
