Shikha Goel warns women against cyber blackmail

Hyderabad: Director General of the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau Shikha Goel urged women to remain alert against cyber blackmail and stay safe online.

She released an awareness video on Sunday on the occasion of International Women’s Day highlighting the risks of cyber blackmail.

Goel warned that fraudsters often threaten victims by claiming they will post personal photos on social media.

She advised women not to panic if they receive such threats. She also cautioned them not to send money to blackmailers under any circumstances.

According to Goel, once victims send money, fraudsters usually continue to blackmail them repeatedly.

She urged victims to act with courage and report such incidents immediately to cyber crime authorities.

The Director General also advised people to contact the cyber crime helpline 1930 if they receive cyber threats or suspicious spam calls.

Goel emphasised that people should not remain silent about cyber crimes.

She said awareness and timely reporting can help prevent such crimes and ensure that women remain safe and confident online.
