SHE Teams crack 141 harassment cases in February

Hyderabad: SHE Teams handled 88 complaints and caught 141 offenders in February as part of ongoing efforts to ensure women’s safety in the city.

Operating under the supervision of DCP Women and Children Safety Wing Dr Lavanya, the units acted on complaints received through WhatsApp, social media and direct reporting channels. Officials referred 30 cases to police stations, including 12 FIRs and 18 inquiries.

Authorities said teams apprehended 141 offenders, including 122 adults and 19 minors. Of them, officials counselled 111 individuals in the presence of family members, while they registered 24 petty cases.

SHE Teams report action and outreach in February

In legal outcomes, courts secured 22 convictions with a fine of ₹1,050 each. Two cases resulted in two days’ imprisonment along with a ₹1,000 fine.

Officials cited several incidents handled during the month. At Himayatnagar, teams caught a man for harassing a woman at a traffic signal and imposed a fine. In another case near Nampally Exhibition Grounds, an auto driver faced action for misbehaviour and overcharging.

Teams also acted in cases involving stalking and blackmail. In one instance, a man used personal photos to threaten a woman, while in another, an accused harassed a woman to force marriage. Officials apprehended both individuals and imposed penalties.

Alongside enforcement, SHE Teams conducted 232 awareness programmes in colleges and public places. They also carried out 1,002 observation drives and 230 vehicle-based campaigns across the city.

Police advised citizens to remain cautious online and avoid sharing personal information. They urged victims to report harassment immediately through Dial 100 or WhatsApp at 9490616555.
