Seethakka reviews Stree Nidhi loans, orders probe

Hyderabad: Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Seethakka reviewed Stree Nidhi operations, focusing on loan distribution, recovery trends and alleged irregularities.

Seethakka held a review meeting at the Secretariat and sought details on loans extended to women self-help groups. Officials briefed her on disbursements, recovery performance and overall progress.

They said Stree Nidhi disbursed ₹1,947 crore in 2024–25. In the current financial year, the organisation has already extended ₹2,064 crore to women groups.

Seethakka orders probe into Stree Nidhi operations

Officials said the organisation achieved nearly 90% of its lending targets despite limited staff. Recovery stood at 78% last year and 72% this year so far.

They added that teams from SERP and MEPMA were working to improve recovery to 85% through field-level efforts.

Seethakka reviewed recent media reports on the organisation and ordered a detailed inquiry. She directed officials to submit a comprehensive report on the issues raised.

Warning of strict action, the minister said authorities would act if funds were diverted for personal use. She noted that the organisation supports poor women and improves livelihoods.

Highlighting policy focus, she said women’s economic empowerment drives social progress. The government, she added, continues to support programmes such as Indira Mahila Shakti.

The minister said the State aims to support one crore women to achieve financial growth. She directed officials to ensure transparency and efficiency in operations.

At the same time, she asked authorities to counter misinformation at district and State levels. She also directed officials to act against misuse of loan or recovery funds.

Rural Development Director Divya Devarajan, Stree Nidhi MD Vidyasagar Reddy and senior officials attended the meeting.
