Seethakka unveils multi-department plan for women’s safety and empowerment

Hyderabad: The women’s safety plan Telangana will roll out with coordinated action across departments to strengthen protection and empowerment measures, Minister Dr. Danasari Anasuya Seethakka said on Monday.

The Panchayati Raj, Rural Development and Women and Child Welfare Minister chaired a high-level review at the Secretariat to frame new policies. Senior officials, including Sanjay Kumar, Shika Goyal, Christina Chongtu, Anita Ramachandran, Priyanka Varghese, Shruti Ojha and SERP CEO Divya Devarajan, attended the meeting.

Officials observed that mechanisms such as She Teams, Bharosa Kendras and cybercrime control units were functioning effectively. However, they identified gaps in educational institutions, hostels, offices, night travel, digital platforms and the unorganised sector.

Women’s safety plan Telangana proposes systemic reforms

Under the women’s safety plan Telangana, the government will introduce mandatory audits for Internal Complaints Committees in educational and corporate institutions. It will also provide GPS-linked transport facilities for women employees working beyond 8 pm.

The Minister approved a special registration system with ID cards and complaint mechanisms for women in the unorganised sector. In addition, authorities will strengthen CCTV surveillance in public transport and conduct peak-hour safety audits.

Officials decided to fast-track cybercrime cases involving morphing, stalking and blackmail, along with counselling support for victims. The plan also includes protection policies for elderly, single and disabled women.

Further, the government will introduce digital monitoring protocols for shelter homes and hostels. Transparent admissions to working women’s hostels will take place through a government app.

Women’s safety plan Telangana to create task force

Seethakka proposed a State-level Women’s Safety Convergence Task Force involving the Home, Education, Labour, Transport, Municipal Administration, IT and Health departments. She directed officials to prepare health profiles for women Self-Help Group members.

Moreover, she instructed departments to ensure maternity benefits for women employees in the private sector with legal safeguards. “Women’s safety is not the responsibility of a single department; it is the comprehensive duty of the government,” she said.

The Minister stated that major schemes under the women’s safety plan Telangana would launch after approval from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

She also reviewed designs of the Indiramma Mahila Shakti UPFORM sarees. The government plans to distribute one crore Indiramma sarees to one crore women in the coming financial year.
