HYDERABAD: A major fire accident occurred in Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Saturday, when a blaze broke out at a scrap shop near Telangana Nagar in Palwancha, engulfing nearly 10 cars in flames.
The incident took place while workers were cutting down scrap vehicles using a gas cutter, according to preliminary reports. All ten vehicles that caught fire were already scrapped and kept at the yard.
On receiving information, firefighting personnel rushed to the spot and managed to bring the flames under control using two fire engines. The swift action prevented the fire from spreading to nearby areas.
Locals expressed concern over the unchecked operation of scrap shops in Palwancha, many of which, they alleged, are running without necessary permits or fire safety measures. They claimed that not even a single scrap yard in the area complies with basic fire safety regulations.
Residents further accused officials of turning a blind eye to these violations, emboldening shop owners to operate recklessly. They demanded that authorities initiate strict action against illegally run scrap businesses to prevent such incidents in the future.
No casualties were reported in the incident. However, the loss of property and the risk posed to public safety have triggered renewed calls for regulatory enforcement in the area.
