SCR NDRF mock drill rescues passengers at Bolarum station

Hyderabad: SCR NDRF mock drill simulated a train accident rescue at Bolarum Railway Station, where teams evacuated around 24 trapped passengers from closed coaches. Officials conducted the exercise on Wednesday to test emergency response systems.

During the drill, authorities created a scenario in which passengers remained trapped inside train coaches after an unusual incident. The Accident Relief Train team responded immediately after receiving information. At the same time, the Railway Emergency Control Room alerted the National Disaster Response Force for support.

Soon after, NDRF personnel reached the site and joined the operation. Both South Central Railway and NDRF teams carried out coordinated rescue efforts using specialised equipment. As a result, teams successfully evacuated all trapped passengers from the simulated accident site.

SCR NDRF mock drill tests emergency coordination

Officials clarified that the incident formed part of a full-scale technical mock drill. They organised the exercise to assess staff preparedness and improve response efficiency during real emergencies.

Hyderabad Division of South Central Railway conducted the drill with multiple agencies. The team included 25 personnel from the Regional Response Centre, Hyderabad. In addition, 10 personnel from the 10th Battalion of NDRF participated under the command of Dy Commandant Dhamodar Singh.

HYDRAA deployed eight personnel, while the Fire Brigade contributed 11 members. Railway teams also deployed the Accident Relief Train and the Self Propelled Accident Relief Medical Van. The exercise took place between 9:50 am and 12:30 pm on March 18, 2026.

SCR NDRF mock drill evaluates rescue equipment use

The drill also focused on testing disaster-response equipment. Teams used tools such as combi tools and cutters for cold cutting operations. These tools helped cut window rods and coach frames to access trapped passengers.

Such operations enabled rescuers to lift injured passengers safely and evacuate them from affected coaches. Therefore, officials emphasised hands-on training with specialised equipment as a key objective of the exercise.

Senior officials monitored the drill at the site. K. Venkatramana Reddy, Principal Chief Safety Officer of SCR, and Santosh Kumar Verma, Divisional Railway Manager of Hyderabad Division, attended the exercise. Dhamodar Singh, Dy Commandant of NDRF, and other officials also supervised the operation.

The SCR NDRF mock drill highlighted coordinated response, equipment readiness and inter-agency collaboration during simulated railway emergencies.
