Hyderabad: The death of former Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police H. J. Dora drew condolences from Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar on Friday, who described the late officer as one of the finest leaders in the Indian Police Service.
In a condolence message, Sajjanar said the HJ Dora death marked a significant loss to the police fraternity. He said Dora’s distinguished service and leadership had left a lasting impact on policing in the state.
According to the Commissioner, Dora commanded wide respect among officers for his professionalism and commitment to public service. His leadership style, he noted, inspired generations of police personnel.
Recalling Dora’s tenure as Director General of Police in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh, Sajjanar said the senior officer assumed charge in November 1996 during a difficult phase marked by intense Naxal activity.
The HJ Dora death also reminded officers of his leadership during one of the most challenging periods for the police force. At that time, cadres of the People’s War Group had attacked the Sirpur–Utnur police station in Adilabad district and killed 16 policemen.
Despite those circumstances, Dora guided the police force with strategic direction and firm leadership. Consequently, the morale of police personnel improved and the force regained operational stability.
HJ Dora death recalls legacy in policing
During his tenure, Dora later became the longest-serving head of the state police force. He also introduced several policy reforms that emphasised professionalism, discipline and public-oriented policing.
According to Sajjanar, these reforms strengthened institutional functioning and enhanced the credibility of the police department.
The Hyderabad Police Commissioner also recalled his personal association with the late officer. He said Dora was his first police boss during the early years of his career.
Moreover, Sajjanar noted that he had recently shared the dais with Dora at a private event held in December last year.
Following the HJ Dora death, the Hyderabad City Police extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. The department also prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
