Road safety drive: Minister urges ‘Parents (Amma, Nanna)’ stickers on bike speedometers

Hyderabad: Telangana Sports and Animal Husbandry Minister Vakiti Srihari urged transport officials to paste stickers reading “Parents (Amma, Nanna)” on motorcycle speedometers as part of a road safety campaign.

The minister addressed students during the National Road Safety Month programme at the Narayanpet district headquarters. He said such visual reminders would make riders think of their parents before speeding or riding rashly.

To ensure implementation, Srihari announced that he would personally bear the cost of printing one lakh stickers. He directed officials to print them immediately and paste them on every bike.

Road safety rules can save young lives, says minister

The minister advised youngsters to avoid bike stunts and strictly follow traffic rules. In this context, he recalled that sons of noted personalities such as Kota Srinivasa Rao, Babu Mohan, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Azharuddin lost their lives in road accidents.

Highlighting the seriousness of the issue, Srihari said India recorded one road accident every second. However, he stressed that people could prevent many accidents by following basic safety norms.

He urged parents to remember their children while driving. Likewise, he asked youngsters to think of their parents while riding.

Sharing a personal experience, the minister said a road accident ended his chances of playing cricket for the national team. He warned that danger still existed if other road users drove recklessly.

Emphasising safety, Srihari said every part of the human body mattered. Therefore, he appealed to riders to wear helmets and drivers to use seat belts without fail.

RTC officials, road transport authorities and party leaders attended the programme.
