Revanth proposes sports university for Olympic training in Telangana

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy proposed a sports university proposal to build a world-class training ecosystem in Telangana aimed at preparing athletes for the Olympic Games.

The Chief Minister raised the proposal during a sports department review meeting held at his Jubilee Hills residence on Monday. Ministers Vakiti Srihari and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy attended the meeting. Chief Minister Adviser Vem Narender Reddy, SAT Chairman Shivsena Reddy, and Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao were also present. Senior officials from the sports department joined the discussion.

Officials briefed the Chief Minister on the development of facilities at the Young India Sports University. The discussion focused on creating infrastructure that meets international standards. Plans also included building facilities for multiple sporting disciplines so athletes can train under one system.

The Chief Minister reiterated the need for a dedicated university focused on Olympic preparation. He also suggested strengthening the sports infrastructure at the Gachibowli outdoor stadium. The proposals included constructing an indoor stadium, a university complex, hostel accommodation, and several sports grounds within the same campus.

Sports university proposal focuses on Olympic training ecosystem

During the meeting, Revanth Reddy examined several proposed architectural designs for the facilities. He gave multiple suggestions to officials to refine the designs and ensure they match international sporting standards.

In addition, he stressed the importance of long-term planning to place Telangana on the global sporting map. He asked officials to prepare strategies that could help the State host major international events such as the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games.

The Chief Minister also directed officials to modernise existing sports venues across the State. He specifically instructed departments to upgrade Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy Stadium, LB Stadium, and Saroor Nagar Stadium to meet future training and competition requirements.

Officials said the upgrades would strengthen Telangana’s sports ecosystem and provide better infrastructure for athletes aiming to compete at international tournaments.
