CM Revanth inspects Tummidi Kunta lake restoration works

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy reviewed Tummidi Kunta lake restoration works during a visit to Madhapur, assessing progress after encroachments were cleared.

The inspection took place on Friday as he returned from a textile summit at HITEX. During the visit, he toured the lake’s perimeter to evaluate the ongoing works. Moreover, officials briefed him on the progress of the Tummidi Kunta lake restoration project.

The lake had earlier shrunk to just 14 acres due to encroachments. However, authorities removed illegal structures as part of the Tummidi Kunta lake restoration efforts. As a result, the water body has now been expanded to 28.05 acres.

Officials said the restoration aimed to improve water capacity and environmental conditions in the area. Therefore, the lake restoration project focused on reclaiming lost space and strengthening the ecosystem.

Tummidi Kunta lake restoration backed by ₹20 crore funding

The government allocated ₹20 crore for the Tummidi Kunta works. Officials said the funds would support infrastructure improvements and long-term conservation measures.

They added that restoring urban lakes remained a priority to address environmental concerns. In addition, such projects were expected to enhance urban resilience and public spaces.

During the inspection, the Chief Minister reviewed key components of the project. He emphasised timely completion and quality execution of the works. Consequently, the lake restoration initiative was positioned as a model for similar projects.

Officials noted that reclaiming encroached land played a crucial role in expanding the lake. They said continued monitoring would ensure sustained protection of the restored area.

The visit highlighted the government’s focus on urban environmental restoration. With expanded capacity and dedicated funding, the Tummidi Kunta lake restoration project marked a significant step in lake conservation efforts in Hyderabad.
