Hyderabad: Retired employees of the Excise Department handed over ₹2.80 lakh as a Soumya family donation to support the kin of Excise Constable Soumya, who died in the line of duty. The amount represented one day’s pension contributed by members of the Retired Employees’ Association.
Excise, Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao presented the cheque to the family at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat on Friday. He described the Soumya family donation as a commendable gesture that reflected solidarity within the department.
The Minister recalled that the State government had earlier sanctioned ₹1 crore as financial assistance to the family. In addition, it provided a government job to Soumya’s brother to ensure long-term support.

Krishna Rao said the government recognised the efforts of Excise personnel in curbing narcotics and illicit liquor. He assured continued support to the force in its enforcement activities. He reiterated that authorities would take stringent action against ganja and illegal liquor operations across the State.
Association president Mukunda Reddy and representative Vishnu Swaroop Reddy attended the programme. Nizamabad Deputy Commissioner Somireddy was also present. Members of Soumya’s family received the cheque during the event.
Officials said the Soumya family donation demonstrated unity among serving and retired staff. They noted that such contributions strengthened morale within the department during difficult times.
