Rawada Azad Chandrasekhar named Kerala DGP

Hyderabad: Rawada Azad Chandrasekhar, a native of Veeravasaram in West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, has been appointed as the new Director General of Police for Kerala. A 1991-batch IPS officer from the Kerala cadre, Chandrasekhar was serving as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau under the central government.

He takes charge following the retirement of incumbent DGP Sheikh Darvesh Sahib on Monday. Chandrasekhar will hold the post for two years.

Previously, he served as SP in Wayanad and Palakkad districts, besides working as DIG for Thrissur and Kochi ranges and as Commissioner of Police in Thiruvananthapuram. In 2008, he was deputed to central services and worked with the Intelligence Bureau for an extended period, with a focus on Andhra Pradesh-related affairs. Recently, he also served as Secretary of the security wing in the Cabinet Secretariat.
