HYDERABAD: A rare case of human coronavirus HKU1 has been reported in Kolkata, where a 45-year-old woman has tested positive for the virus. According to doctors, she is currently undergoing treatment in isolation at a private hospital in South Kolkata.
The woman had been experiencing symptoms such as cold, fever, and cough for the past 15 days before seeking medical attention. Upon diagnosis, she was placed under isolation to prevent any potential spread.
Medical experts have stated that HKU1 is typically associated with mild respiratory illnesses and does not pose a risk of becoming a pandemic. This virus belongs to the beta coronavirus lineage known as “Beta Coronavirus Hong Kong.” At present, there is no specific treatment or vaccine available for HKU1.
