Ramachander Rao says BJP strong, confident of No.1 in Telangana local polls

Hyderabad: With the local body election notification issued in Telangana, major political parties began preparations for the polls. State BJP president Ramachander Rao on Monday said his party was strong and confident of emerging as the number one force in the upcoming elections.

Rao dismissed suggestions that the BJP was weak. He highlighted the party’s growing organisational base in rural areas. In addition, he noted that its vote share had risen in previous elections. This time, he declared, the BJP would secure the highest number of seats.

BJP questions ruling party over reservations in local polls

Rao criticised the ruling party on the issue of reservations. He said the government intended to provide 10 percent reservation to Muslims, which the official order did not mention. The BJP, he clarified, supported 42 percent reservations but opposed extending quotas on religious grounds.

He alleged that the state enacted dramas on the reservation issue. Earlier, the government accused the Governor and BJP of blocking the process. However, it has now gone ahead and issued the order. Rao asked why the government failed to release the notification earlier, arguing that the delay created unnecessary complications.

He insisted that the BJP played no role in the court cases over local body reservations. Only those who approached the judiciary could explain the matter, he said. Rao stressed that his party was fully prepared for the elections and determined to contest every seat.
