Ponguleti assures accreditation for all eligible journalists

Hyderabad: Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy told the State Legislative Council that the government will issue accreditation cards to all eligible journalists without discrimination.

Ponguleti said the government has no intention to divide media professionals on any basis. At the same time, he stressed that both desk and field journalists will receive equal recognition.

He said authorities formed committees based on suggestions from senior stakeholders. Accordingly, the government aims to ensure fair and transparent issuance of accreditation cards.

Ponguleti outlines support measures for journalists

Responding to questions during Question Hour, Ponguleti said the government initially issued GO 252. However, it later revised the order after receiving inputs from journalists’ associations.

He said some misconceptions are being spread regarding accreditation cards. Therefore, the government remains open to further revisions through additional circulars if required.

Ponguleti said the government is working with commitment to provide house sites for journalists. At the same time, it is taking precautions to avoid legal complications in allotments.

He added that the government will soon announce a positive decision on housing. He also referred to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s recent assurance on the issue.

The minister said the digital media policy has reached the final stage. He added that the government plans to roll it out within the next two to three months.

Ponguleti also said the government will not compromise on the safety and security of journalists. He stressed that protecting media professionals remains a priority.
