Polytechnic courses set for big seat hike

Hyderabad: Polytechnic courses are set for a big seat hike in the 2025-26 academic year as the Technical Education Department increases intake and restructures select programmes.

The department will add 2,880 seats in existing streams. In addition, it will introduce 2,280 seats across 10 new courses. As a result, total intake in government polytechnic colleges will rise from 13,050 to 18,330 next year.

Computer Science and Engineering will receive 1,320 additional seats. Earlier, the course had 1,420 seats. With the expansion, intake will increase to 2,740 seats. Similarly, the department will double seats in Printing Technology and Data Analytics from 60 to 120.

Polytechnic courses see major expansion across streams

Electronics and Video Engineering will gain 120 seats. Meanwhile, Electronics and Communication Engineering will add 60 seats. Electrical Engineering and Electric Vehicle Technology will receive 360 seats, while Electrical and Electronics Engineering will expand by 180 seats.

Further, the department will increase Cyber Physical Systems and Security by 60 seats. Cloud Computing and Big Data will grow by 120 seats. Chemical Engineering will add 60 seats, and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning will expand by 540 seats. Officials have sought AICTE approval for the enhanced intake.

The department has also renamed four polytechnic courses to align with industry demand. It has changed Electronics and Video Engineering to Multimedia and Electronics Engineering. It has renamed Commercial Computer Practice as DCABM. Textile Technology will now function as Textile and Fashion Technology. Printing Technology will operate as Printing Technology and Data Analytics.
