Hyderabad: The 74th All India Police Football Championship 2025–26 began in Hyderabad with Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla inaugurating the event at Gachibowli Stadium. The police football championship brought teams from across the country for competitive matches.
The event was organised under the leadership of DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy. Consequently, police personnel from different states participated, setting aside official duties to compete on the field.
Police football championship promotes discipline and fitness
The Governor said sports build not only physical strength but also discipline and personality. Moreover, he praised police personnel for engaging in healthy competition while representing their units.
He noted that participants from across India competed in a spirit of sportsmanship. At the same time, he stressed the need to increase participation of women police in future editions.
He also said Telangana is emerging as a hub for sports development. Therefore, he cited initiatives such as Young India Sports University as steps towards producing world-class athletes.
DGP Shivadhar Reddy said hosting the police football championship in Hyderabad brought pride to the state police. He added that sports hold a key role in police service and help improve fitness and teamwork.
Senior officials attended the event, including RBVRR Police Academy Director Abhilasha Bisht and IG Sports Gajarao Bhupal. Meanwhile, Cyberabad Police Commissioner Dr M. Ramesh and senior officers Sanjay Kumar Jain, Anil Kumar, and Abhishek Mahanti also took part.
The championship will continue with teams from across the country competing in scheduled matches.
