Juba, January 29: A small aircraft crashed in South Sudan’s Unity State on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of 20 people. According to a report, the plane was carrying 21 passengers, including two pilots. It was leased by the Chinese oil company Greater Pioneer Operating Company.
Unity State’s Information Minister, Gatwech Bipal, stated that the crash occurred at 10:30 AM local time while the plane was en route to the capital, Juba. All passengers onboard were employees of the oil company.
Among the deceased were two Chinese nationals and one Indian citizen, Bipal confirmed. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash while rescue and recovery operations are underway.
