Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court will hear the Pawan Khera transit bail plea today, as Congress leader Pawan Khera sought interim protection from arrest in a case filed by Assam Police.
Justice K. Sujana will take up the matter for consideration. Khera filed the petition seeking transit anticipatory bail to approach courts in Assam.
Legal relief sought in Pawan Khera transit bail plea
Assam Police registered the case alleging defamation, forgery, and criminal conspiracy. The case followed public remarks made by Khera about Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
He alleged that she held multiple foreign passports and undisclosed overseas assets. Subsequently, police initiated criminal proceedings based on these statements.
In his petition, Khera argued that he needed interim protection. Therefore, he sought transit bail to travel and pursue legal remedies before competent courts in Assam.
The High Court will examine the plea during Thursday’s hearing.
