Police cordon search in Paramount Colony exposes foreign nationals overstaying visas

Hyderabad: Tensions flared in Paramount Colony early Friday morning as city police carried out a massive cordon and search operation aimed at cracking down on suspected illegal activity and overstaying foreign nationals.

The operation kicked off around 3 a.m., with roughly 150 personnel from the Law & Order, Task Force, HNU, and Armed Reserve units sweeping through the area. Police said the move followed credible intelligence pointing to unlawful activity and visa violations.

During the search, officers discovered a high concentration of migrants from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia living in the neighborhood. Initial checks found that at least 18 individuals were staying in the country illegally, their visas long expired. Police said deportation proceedings would be initiated soon.

During the operation, police also seized over 50 motorcycles and five cars without valid documentation. In addition, unlicensed liquor outlets and hookah centres were found operating discreetly. A considerable volume of alcohol bottles and gas cylinders were confiscated from the premises.

South West Zone DCP Chandramohan, who led the operation, said: “We conducted a cordon search and community contact programme in Paramount Colony. We have identified foreign nationals overstaying their visas and will begin deportation. While no drugs were recovered today, we are serious about future violations and will take strict action.”

He added that similar search operations will be conducted in other vulnerable areas of the city as part of an ongoing crackdown on unauthorised foreign presence and associated illegal activities.
