Income Tax dept will launch PAN 2.0 with LTI Mindtree as tech partner

PAN 2.0 project to streamline tax ID services with a single digital portal by 2026

Hyderabad: The Income Tax Department is gearing up to launch the PAN 2.0 project, which aims to bring all PAN and TAN-related services under one unified digital roof. LTI Mindtree has been appointed as the managed service provider for the ₹1,435-crore initiative.

Currently, PAN-related services are distributed across three portals: e-filing, UTIITSL, and Protean eGov. The new platform will consolidate them, ending long-standing duplication. Services including new PAN issuance, updates, Aadhaar-PAN linking, reprints, and online verification will be hosted in one place.

A senior official said LTI Mindtree would oversee the design, development, rollout, and management of the project. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs cleared funding in November 2024, and the platform is expected to go live in 18 months.

All processes under PAN 2.0 will be paperless and free. Applicants will receive e-PANs directly to their registered email addresses. “We’re proud to lead this key digital upgrade for the Income Tax Department,” an LTI Mindtree spokesperson said.

India currently has over 81.24 crore active PANs and more than 73 lakh TANs. Officials clarified that existing PAN holders do not need to reapply under the new system. Following the announcement, LTI Mindtree’s stock closed 1.42% higher at ₹5,088.25 on the BSE.
