Hyderabad: Hyderabad police have detained a Pakistani national who entered the city to meet his wife. Mohammad Fayaz, who married a woman from Hyderabad, travelled from Pakistan to Nepal before reaching Hyderabad, where he was taken into custody by the police. Reports indicate that Fayaz had been working in Dubai.
This development comes in the wake of severely strained relations between India and Pakistan following the terror attack in Pahalgam, where 26 tourists lost their lives. In response, India imposed several restrictions on Pakistan, including the cancellation of visas issued to Pakistani nationals.
According to the Special Branch police, there are currently 208 Pakistani nationals residing in Hyderabad. The Ministry of External Affairs had earlier announced that all visas issued to Pakistani citizens would be cancelled effective 27 April, with medical visas remaining valid only until 29 April. The government instructed all Pakistani nationals in India to leave the country before the expiry of their visa validity.
The presence of Pakistani nationals in Hyderabad has thus become a point of concern. Among the 208 identified individuals, 156 hold long-term visas, 13 have short-term visas, and 39 possess business visas.
Home Minister Amit Shah reportedly contacted the Chief Ministers of all states, directing them to immediately identify Pakistani nationals residing locally and ensure their departure, while also forwarding their data to the Centre.
