Contract Professors at Osmania University begin indefinite strike for regular appointments

HYDERABAD: Contract Professors at Osmania University have launched an indefinite strike demanding the regularisation of their employment. Asserting that the Congress party had promised permanent appointments in its election manifesto, the protesting faculty gathered outside the university’s administrative building, calling on the government to fulfil its commitment.

Assistant professors participating in the protest stated that they have been teaching at the university for several years, yet their services remain contractual. They described this prolonged uncertainty as a clear injustice.

The strike has garnered support from the Telangana BC Welfare Association President R. Krishnaiah and Adilabad MLA Shankar, both of whom visited the protest site and expressed full solidarity with the demonstrators. They stressed that the government must recognise the contribution of these educators and take swift action to strengthen the state’s higher education system.

The striking professors have warned that if their demands are not met promptly, they will intensify their agitation, potentially disrupting academic activities at the university.

The protesting faculty highlighted that thousands of contract professors across Telangana have been serving for years and argued that the time has come to implement the Congress party’s repeated electoral promise of regularising their positions.
