HYDERABAD: In a key decision, the Telangana government has reappointed NVS Reddy as the Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) and Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML). The move comes despite the recent termination of services of several retired officials across various departments.
The order was issued by Principal Secretary M. Dana Kishore, reaffirming Reddy’s position for another year. The government cited the critical stage of the Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 project as the reason for continuing his services.
NVS Reddy has been instrumental in shaping both the HMRL and HAML projects. With Phase 2 entering a crucial phase, the government believes his leadership will be essential in maintaining continuity and ensuring smooth execution. The new phase involves proposals under Part-A and Part-B, with five corridors in Part-A and three in Part-B. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the five Part-A corridors was submitted to the Centre five months ago. The state hopes to begin work swiftly once approval is granted.
The Revanth Reddy-led government is treating the second phase of Metro expansion as a priority, with plans to extend the network to areas like Old City, Airport, North City, and Fourth City. The reappointment of Reddy reflects the government’s strategy to retain experienced leadership during this expansion.
This decision stands out as the state government recently terminated services of many reappointed or contract-based retired officials. A total of 177 individuals from the Municipal and Urban Development Department and 47 from Panchayat Raj were dismissed. However, in Reddy’s case, the government deemed his expertise crucial for ongoing infrastructure development.
