Hyderabad: A deeply distressing incident unfolded in Telangana’s Nirmal district, where a 28-day-old baby girl died after her father, allegedly in a drunken state, fell on her while she was asleep. The incident occurred in Khanapur town.
The man, identified as Shekhar, had returned home intoxicated and collapsed on the infant who was lying on the bed. His wife, Sujata, reportedly screamed for help, drawing other family members to the room. By the time they managed to lift him off the child, she had already stopped breathing.
The infant, born less than a month ago to Shekhar and Sujata, succumbed to suffocation caused by the father’s weight. Despite immediate efforts by the family to revive her, the child was declared dead.
Khanapur police have registered a case and taken Shekhar into custody. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the death.
