Hyderabad: The National Green Tribunal dismissed a petition challenging the Musi River rejuvenation project, giving major relief to the Telangana government.

BRS leader Patolla Karthik Reddy filed the petition alleging environmental violations in the project, including the Gandhi Sarovar component.

The tribunal examined the petition and found no merit in the claims. It noted that the petitioner failed to submit any technical or scientific evidence to support the allegations.

Musi river project gets legal relief after NGT order

The tribunal said mere assumptions could not justify halting the project. It was observed that the petitioner failed to establish any environmental violations.

As a result, the tribunal dismissed the plea, clearing a key legal hurdle for the project.

The State government has planned the Musi River project to transform Hyderabad on the lines of the Thames River in London. It has taken up the project with an estimated cost of around ₹50,000 crore.

Following the order, officials are expected to speed up the work. Authorities have already initiated steps to prevent sewage inflow into the river and are focusing on constructing STPs, retaining walls and check dams.
