NCW takes cognisance of Hyderabad gang rape case, seeks action report

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad gang rape case drew the attention of the National Commission for Women, which took suo motu cognisance and sought immediate action from Telangana Police.

The Commission directed the Director General of Police to register an FIR under the relevant provisions. It also asked the police to arrest all the accused without delay.

Further, the NCW called for a time-bound investigation. It also sought protection for the survivor and asked for an Action Taken Report within seven days.

Hyderabad gang rape case involves allegations against the husband and his associates.

The Commission termed the incident a serious violation of dignity and bodily autonomy. It also said it undermines the sanctity of marriage.

According to police, a 22-year-old woman approached authorities last week. She alleged that her husband and his associates assaulted her on their wedding night last year.

Initially, the Kukatpally police received the complaint. However, they later transferred the case to Begumpet police due to jurisdiction.

Police registered a case and began an investigation. Meanwhile, the accused remains at large.

The woman said she married a 28-year-old man from Nellore district on July 28, 2025. She alleged that he invited friends to their rented house in Begumpet.

They consumed alcohol and made her drink as well. She said they assaulted her while she was unconscious.
