Hyderabad: Nagarjuna Sagar dam is discharging over 2.6 lakh cusecs of floodwater through 26 gates as inflow from upstream continues to surge, according to the latest data at 7 p.m. Wednesday, inflow from Srisailam reached 2,82,124 cusecs.
Authorities opened 16 gates to a height of 5 feet and 10 gates to 10 feet, releasing 2,65,080 cusecs into the river. Discharges also continue through the right canal (8,144 cusecs), left canal (7,272 cusecs), main hydroelectric station (28,826 cusecs), SLBC (1,800 cusecs), and flood canal (300 cusecs).
The current reservoir level stands at 586 feet, just four feet short of the full reservoir level of 590 feet. Against a total storage capacity of 312.0450 TMC, the dam currently holds 300.3200 TMC.
Continuous upstream rainfall has triggered a heavy flood surge into the Krishna basin, pushing the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir close to full capacity. All 26 crest gates are currently open, creating a rare visual spectacle that is drawing a steady stream of tourists to the site.
Power generation at the main hydroelectric station continues in parallel with the discharge operations.
