Hyderabad: BJP MP M. Raghunandan Rao on Thursday appealed to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to allocate a quota for Members of Parliament in the selection of beneficiaries under the Indiramma housing scheme.
In an open letter, the MP welcomed the state’s decision to launch the Indiramma housing initiative for the poor and weaker sections, linking it with funds from the Central government’s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He described the integration of both schemes as a positive development.
Raghunandan Rao lauded the move to grant 40% quota to local MLAs in the beneficiary selection process, calling it a respectful acknowledgement of their electoral mandate. He, however, requested that a similar 40% quota be extended to the 17 Lok Sabha MPs from Telangana.
Stating that MPs, like MLAs, are also elected by the people, Rao argued that including them in the implementation process would ensure equal representation, improve transparency, and strengthen coordination between state and central efforts.
He urged the Chief Minister to take a fair and timely decision in recognising MPs’ roles in the housing scheme’s rollout.
