Hyderabad: With the monsoon clouds gathering over Hyderabad, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy called for an all-hands-on-deck approach on Tuesday, urging officials to keep emergency response teams on high alert and operational round the clock to combat potential rain-related challenges in the city.
The Chief Minister, in a high-level meeting, sought an update on the status of water harvesting wells under construction at 141 flood-prone spots across the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. He emphasised the immediate need for automatic pumps that could swiftly drain rainwater into these wells, helping to reduce the risk of waterlogging during heavy rainfall.
Revanth Reddy also pointed to the importance of heeding the Indian Meteorological Department’s warnings and directed officials to act in advance to head off potential damage. He pushed for a solid monitoring system at the Command Control Centre to keep tabs on rainfall intensity and possible flooding as it happens.

The Chief Minister’s orders didn’t stop there. He directed the Police, Traffic, Hyderabad Road Development Authority (HYDRAA), and GHMC departments to work in tandem, aiming to avert traffic snarls and other disruptions when the skies open up. Coordinated efforts, he said, were essential to safeguard residents from the monsoon’s fury.
Turning his attention to drainage and desilting, Reddy demanded faster completion of pending works and called for the identification of vulnerable areas where flooding could cause the most damage. He told officials to chalk out contingency plans in advance, especially to protect the rapidly expanding Core Urban Region within the Outer Ring Road from flooding and submergence.
With Hyderabad’s urban sprawl accelerating, Reddy recommended drafting a dedicated policy for developing and expanding the region’s tanks, canals, and roads. Such a strategy, he said, would fortify the city’s defences against the monsoon’s worst impacts and support sustainable growth.
Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao, CMO officials V Seshadri and Manik Raj, GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan, HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath, HMDA officials, and other key stakeholders attended the meeting, signalling the government’s commitment to ensuring Hyderabad is monsoon-ready.
