HYDERABAD: A devastating gas leak incident in Mittapalli village of Tallada mandal, Khammam district, has claimed a fourth life, further plunging the local community into grief. The latest victim, eight-year-old Tarun, succumbed to injuries early Wednesday while undergoing treatment at Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad.
The tragedy began on Tuesday when a gas cylinder reportedly leaked and caused a fire that led to the deaths of Tarun’s twin siblings and an elderly woman from the same family. Tarun, the elder son of Guttikonda Vinod Kumar, was among the four others critically injured in the incident.
Doctors at Khammam Government Hospital, after assessing their serious condition, referred the survivors to Osmania Hospital for advanced care. However, despite efforts, Tarun did not respond to treatment and was declared dead in the early hours of Wednesday.
The sequence of deaths—three in two days from a single household—has cast a pall of gloom over Mittapalli. Villagers are in shock as the family struggles with the loss of three children in rapid succession. The remaining three injured are still under intensive care, with their condition described as serious but stable.
Locals have been offering prayers for their recovery and extending support to the grieving family.
