Minister Srihari reviews sports funding in 2026–27 Budget

Hyderabad: Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, Fisheries, Youth Services and Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari reviewed sports funding allocations in the 2026–27 Budget and directed officials to prioritise financial assistance for athletes.

He held a review meeting at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat with senior officials. During the meeting, the Minister said the State government remains committed to encouraging sportspersons and strengthening facilities. Moreover, he stated that the government intends to introduce a new sports policy to accelerate development.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Telangana aims to emerge as a leading State in competitive sports, he said. Accordingly, the department is seeking enhanced allocations in the 2026–27 Budget.

Sports funding to back medal winners and young talent

Srihari directed officials to send proposals ensuring dedicated allocations for athletes who secure medals at the Olympics, Paralympics, international and national competitions. In addition, he stressed that timely incentives would boost morale and performance.

He also said the government will extend financial assistance to talented players from school to university level. Furthermore, he noted that sustained State support plays a crucial role in nurturing sporting excellence.

The Minister asked officials to frame transparent guidelines for disbursing incentives and implement them without bias. Meanwhile, Managing Director of the Sports Authority of Telangana Sony Baladevi and other senior officials attended the meeting.
