Hyderabad: Midnight heavy rain hit several districts of North Telangana, surprising residents and bringing a sudden drop in temperatures.
Adilabad district witnessed dense cloud cover followed by intense showers during late night hours. In addition, gusty winds accompanied the rain in many areas, leading to cooler conditions.
Similarly, Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts recorded rainfall during the night. Residents reported abrupt weather changes after days of rising heat.
According to Meteorological Department officials, the heavy rain occurred under the influence of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. The system continues to remain active.
Heavy rain likely for two more days; yellow alert in place
The department forecast moderate to heavy rain in parts of Telangana over the next two days. In particular, North and Central Telangana districts may witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.
Therefore, officials advised people to remain cautious during storm activity. They also asked residents in low-lying areas to take preventive steps.
Farmers have been urged to protect standing crops from potential damage. Meanwhile, sudden showers may affect agricultural operations.
The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre issued a yellow alert for multiple districts. It stated that a strong low-pressure area persists over the southwest Bay of Bengal.
Further, a trough extends from the low-pressure region to central Maharashtra at about 0.9 kilometres above sea level. This system passes through central Tamil Nadu and interior Karnataka.
Meteorologists said upper air circulation and related atmospheric changes triggered the unseasonal heavy rain. They predicted more thundershowers on Monday and Tuesday.
At the same time, maximum temperatures remain high across the State. Even before March begins, several districts have recorded temperatures close to 35 degrees Celsius.
