MEIL wins USD 225.5 million Kuwait oil project

Hyderabad: Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) has secured a USD 225.5 million project from Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) to build and operate a new gas sweetening and sulphur recovery facility in West Kuwait.

The contract, valued at KWD 69.23 million, includes the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the New Gas Sweetening Facility (NGSF) near Booster Station BS-171. The project will be developed on a Build-Own-Operate basis, with an option for KOC to buy back the facility at a later stage.

The project will be executed in two phases: a 790-day execution phase followed by a five-year operation and maintenance period. The plant is designed to process 120 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of sour gas containing up to 4% hydrogen sulfide and 10% carbon dioxide.

MEIL Kuwait oil project includes a high-efficiency sulphur recovery unit

As part of the contract, MEIL will install a sulphur recovery unit comprising two trains of 100 TPD capacity each. The system is expected to achieve a 299.9% sulphur recovery efficiency. After purification, the gas will be dehydrated and transported through KOC’s pipelines to the Liquefied Petroleum Gas plant at the Mina Ahmadi Refinery.

The facility will play a key role in Kuwait’s push for cleaner fuels and environmental compliance. Gas sweetening removes acidic components from natural gas, improving safety, efficiency, and emissions standards.

MEIL Director P. Doraiah said the project aligns with the company’s vision of delivering high-quality energy infrastructure while supporting environmental safety and operational excellence.
