Medak infant sale: Parents sell week-old baby for ₹1.7 lakh

Hyderabad: A shocking infant sale case surfaced in Medak district after parents allegedly sold their week-old baby for ₹1.7 lakh.

The incident occurred in Havelighanapur mandal. The couple belongs to Lingasanipalli Thanda.

According to officials, the tribal woman delivered a healthy baby boy on the 10th of last month. However, the parents decided to sell the newborn within a week due to financial problems.

They reportedly sold the child to a couple from Kamareddy district.

The case came to light after an Anganwadi worker noticed unusual behaviour from the mother.

The woman stopped visiting the Anganwadi centre to collect eggs and nutritional food provided for the newborn. Therefore the worker decided to check on the family.

Medak infant sale uncovered during inquiry

The Anganwadi worker visited the couple’s house but found it locked. As a result she grew suspicious and informed officials of the Integrated Child Development Services.

ICDS officials began an inquiry into the matter. During the investigation they traced the couple to another village.

Officials questioned the parents about the child. The couple then admitted that they had sold the baby to a couple from Kamareddy.

They reportedly received ₹1.7 lakh for the child.

After confirming the details, officials took the couple into custody. They later handed them over to police at Havelighanapur Police Station for further action.

Police have begun an investigation into the case.
