Hyderabad: Heavy rains and floods over the past week destroyed crops on 5,556 acres in Medak, Siddipet, and Sangareddy districts. Agricultural officials recorded losses of 3,906 farmers and forwarded detailed reports to the state government.
Paddy, cotton, maize, millet, sorghum, and pulses suffered heavy damage as ponds overflowed, canals breached, and streams swelled beyond capacity. Farmers demanded immediate compensation for their losses.
Medak district
In Medak, floods damaged crops on 1,553 acres belonging to 2,218 farmers in eight mandals. Tekmal mandal alone reported 635 submerged acres. The damage covered 874 acres of paddy, 549 acres of cotton, 52 acres of millet, and 78 acres of pulses.
Siddipet district
Siddipet reported the worst losses, with 3,803 acres destroyed and 1,038 farmers hit in five mandals. Vargal and Markook together accounted for 3,553 affected acres. Officials said cotton fell on 261 acres, maize on 81 acres, and vegetables on 129 acres.
Sangareddy district
In Sangareddy, 650 farmers lost crops on 450 acres spread across nine mandals, including Kangti, Kohir, Raikod, and Narayankhed. Cotton, green gram, black gram, and red gram were among the worst affected.
Farmers across all three districts urged the state government to release compensation without delay.
