Hyderabad, February 4: Poultry farmers in Nizamabad district are in distress after a large number of chickens died suddenly. The unexplained deaths, occurring within minutes, have sparked fears of a viral outbreak or bird flu.
In Bhimgal mandal alone, farmers reported the death of nearly one lakh chickens. Similar incidents were recorded in Velpur mandal’s Lakkora and Shayampet villages, as well as in Balkonda constituency.
With the alarming rise in poultry deaths, farmers have started selling off their remaining stock at lower prices, fearing further losses. Upon receiving reports, district veterinary officials visited the affected farms, collected blood samples from both deceased and surviving birds, and sent them for laboratory testing. The exact cause—whether bird flu or another virus—is yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, panic has spread among poultry farm owners, with many shutting down operations.
