Hyderabad: The Markapur bus accident in Andhra Pradesh killed 13 people and injured 27 others, officials said. Six of the injured remained in critical condition. The crash took place in Markapur district and triggered an immediate response from the Centre.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep shock over the tragedy. He conveyed his condolences to the families of those who died. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
“The accident in Markapur is extremely tragic. My deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.” the Prime Minister said on Twitter.
The Prime Minister also announced immediate financial assistance for the victims. Under the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, the families of those killed will receive Rs. 2 lakh each. In addition, each injured person will receive Rs. 50,000 as ex gratia.
